Maresa and Nathan were planning a pretty traditional wedding day on the shores of the York River in coastal Maine. But they wanted anything but traditional when it came to their invitations. Maresa is an architect and is drawn to interesting shapes, clever use of space, and bold design. We custom made this unconventional, two-sided pocket card from pretty blue cardstock (in the same shade as the bridesmaids' dresses). On the front of the card we mounted the text layer in brilliant white, and wrapped the edge with horizontal stripes in shades of sage, chartreuse, blues and brown. A smart, chocolate brown satin knot divides the stripes from the text, which is all lower case, justified flush to the opposite side, and printed in blue and green. When the card is flipped the recipient finds a clever little pocket, in which is tucked a reply card with its envelope, directions to the reception, a stylized map of the area and lodging information. The ensemble is presented in a long and skinny green envelope, return address printed on the front in blue. We saved all of the extra striped paper and ribbon, and shipped it to the bride-to-be; she made matching programs and table cards all on her own. Glad we could inspire such craftiness! |
