When Alex of McLean, Virginia turned sixteen, her mom wanted to give her a surprise evening out in Washington, DC with her ten closest gal pals. Mom gave us one guideline: design something as fun and original as Alex herself, something as special as the milestone the girls would be celebrating. Other than that, she said, it's up to you. We love it when we are given such liberties! Alex is very cool. She studies Chinese, shuns the preppy look for something a tad more original, and digs bright, bold colors. So we looked to Chinatown for some inspiration and designed this tiny little accordion fold card that comes in a matching takeout container-style box. So clever! Chartreuse, papaya and violet cardstock is mixed with a funky tile-patterned paper in the same colors. Beautiful dragonflies are die cut in repeating fashion across the interior panels of the card, alternating with brightly hand-lettered text panels. The card is folded up and tied closed with a sash of dark purple satin ribbon, and packaged in a bed of purple tissue paper inside the little patterned carton. The whole thing was shipped to guests in a mailable white box, adorned with multicolored dragonflies and hand addressed in beautiful, bright colors. We hope the party lived up to the expectations set by these exquisite invitations! |
